To ensure consistent content that effectively relays the fundamentals of design, Professor Tharp developed this module with an emphasis on the four fields that form the basis for design thinking and theories. Commercial, responsible and discursive design will be used to lead focused investigations of design history, theory, critical analysis, design planning and strategy. The material will aim to create a blended, pedagogical approach to design that can then be implemented across different fields while maintaining a singular foundation via common content. The module uses a variety of media, combining in-studio, green-screen narration, illustration, animation and photography of design work, to create informative and engaging content that can continue to serve as a residential resource for current U-M students, as well as for future student recruitment. It promotes proper understanding and implementation of discursive design that can be used as the link between design and art motivations.
