Professor Kevin Korsyn designed this course for novice learners to discover new ways to learn and appreciate the intricacies of classical music. The course uses Western classical music from the 1700s-1900s to exemplify two key themes: the tonality system and the system of major and minor keys used in music. These two themes will be explored through musical theory, aesthetics, balancing principles of structural organization and the history of the subject. Students will come away with a better comprehension of the value of classical music. As the first MOOC collaboration with the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, Introduction to Classical Music explores musical theories that are applicable to a global audience.
