Created by Drs. John Burkhardt and Betty J. Overton-Adkins, the Leading for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Higher Education MOOC is designed to further enhance the leadership skills of professionals interested in learning more about directing institutions of higher learning in a diverse democracy. Developed from existing leadership curricula and nearly a decade of research and findings produced by the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good, this course uses contemporary case studies, interviews with institutional leaders and other interactive tools to help emerging higher education innovators further embed the values of equity, diversity and inclusion as core principles at their institutions. Learners will gain a better understanding of how to frame their own leadership goals and contributions for a changing institutional demographic. The course challenges expectations surrounding leaders, the process of leadership and the ways in which leadership programs are organized and oriented to ensure the next generation of higher education leaders are prepared to take on the complexities of spearheading diversity initiatives.
