There are many different ways to engage with learners in your MOOC. You can communicate with learners in the discussion forums, send updates via course email messages, or even hold live office hours. You can also work with your Course Operations Liaisons to manage learner engagement and to discover topics and areas of interests for en masse responses.
Learners, in addition to agreeing to MOOC platform honor codes, are expected to adhere to the U-M Learner Engagement Policy.
Students can opt to pay for certificates offered by our MOOC platform vendors. These vary in price and typically range from $49-99 per course. At this point, U-M doesn’t offer credit or certificates for completing courses.
Yes, all of the video content and most/all of the activities can be accessed via mobile apps. The MOOC delivery platforms we work with vary slightly in this regard and are evolving. If this is of special interest to you, please feel free to contact us.
While we expect that most of our on-demand courses can run without substantial faculty involvement, we do expect that you will maintain an interest in the course and be able to be reached by the Academic Innovation course operations team. For example, you won’t be expected to respond to individual learners, however our team will reach out if there are trending questions and/or corrections needed to the course. Some MOOC instructors offer time to their MOOC learners through hosting Virtual Office Hours, making topical announcements, and/or posting within the discussion forums.
