Through the center’s XR Initiative, potential projects must utilize a commercially available XR authoring platform to create and distribute content in the categories of content creation or innovative application.

The XR Initiative will fund projects up to $15,000 with content creation projects that include the design and development of new learning experiences, new software to support teaching and learning, or new digital assets. Innovative application proposals will receive in-kind support from the center so project teams have necessary access to tools and platforms.

Projects must utilize available 360-degree or 3-D authoring platforms such as, but not limited to, Virti, Uptale.io, EducationXR, Metavrse or brandxr.

Projects may include the integration of open educational resources and content into a learning experience or adoption of one of the software tools developed by the center into a learning experience. Proposals are due by 5 p.m. Nov. 20.

“We are excited to offer this additional funding opportunity to bring more faculty and students into the XR space, and we are looking to expand content creation capacity across the university,” said Jeremy Nelson, director of the XR Initiative at the center.

Projects must align with XR Initiative goals of advancing multidisciplinary learning and teaching, creating innovative learning experiences with augmented and virtual reality, increasing access to XR technologies to a broad audience, creating repeatable processes for content creation and deployment, and developing research to better understand the effectiveness of XR in education.
