Academic Innovation Virtual Event

Event Details

The National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) and the Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) are excited to partner on this new series of workshops, Amplifying the Impact of Your Anti-Racist and Racial Justice Work. The series will provide scholars at the University of Michigan an opportunity to explore how their anti-racist research can be better understood and amplified using different modes of public engagement.

The series aligns with the Anti-Racism Initiative launched by Provost Susan M. Collins. NCID’s Anti-Racism Collaborative is a strategic space created to facilitate University of Michigan (U-M) community engagement around research and scholarship focused on racial inequality, racial justice, and anti-racist praxis.

Workshop #2: Write for The Conversation
The second interactive workshop will enable scholars to develop and pitch article ideas to editors of The Conversation, a platform that publishes informative articles written by academic experts on relevant issues and edited by a team of professional journalists. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to pitch an article idea directly to The Conversation editors. There will be an optional pre-workshop working session to support faculty in preparing pitch ideas, facilitated by Elyse Aurbach, public engagement lead at CAI, and Mary Rose, Anti-Racism Collaborative program manager at NCID.

This event is open to faculty and graduate students. The number of attendees is limited to 30, and graduate student attendees must be joined by a faculty mentor. Registrants will receive more details about the event agenda and optional pre-work 48 hours prior to the event.
