Event Details

Join us on Friday, February 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Office of Academic Innovation space in the Hatcher Graduate Library (8th floor of Hatcher South) for Innovation Hour, a gathering at the Office of Academic Innovation hosted two times per month featuring a different theme each session. Academic Innovation welcomes faculty, students and staff to stop by, discuss ideas, share experiences, have questions answered and meet members of the Academic Innovation team.

From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  during this Innovation Hour, members of the Creating Catalysts for Academic Innovation Design Group will convene an informal conversation on the topic of “Themed Curricula.” The discussion will explore what would be needed to design and create “just-in-time” teaching and learning opportunities around hot-button issues and current events.

How do we develop and implement themed learning opportunities that respond quickly to contemporary social and political issues, new discoveries, and/or emerging technologies? What elements are needed? In addition to courses and seminars, what other kinds of learning experiences could be a part of such an initiative? Who should be involved in the creation and implementation of a themed curriculum? How might we overcome some of the challenges or barriers to this endeavor? We look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Participants are encouraged to share their vision for the ideal academic community by contributing an experience, idea or recommendation to the Ideas2017 Challenge during the Innovation Hour.
