The Translation Networks tool is designed as a model to integrate and translate materials in the arts and humanities fields while engaging students in the translation process. The project is the result of collaborative work across eight schools/departments at U-M and fills a distinct gap in applications by integrating visualization and data exploration in literature learning. It provides the ability to link, map and annotate texts, translations and materials in the collections, enabling students to understand and draw connections between diverse source materials on the U-M campus. By facilitating information transfer between natural languages and media, the tool builds a community of teaching within and across units while addressing pedagogical issues to teach translation techniques. The Translation Networks tool will analyze student concept maps to measure surface and deep approaches to this integrative learning.
