Professors Melissa Gross, Peter Bodary, Steven Broglio, Deanna Gates and Leah Robinson from the School of Kinesiology have begun a hybrid modular course with the intention to provide students with real-world training centered around the common learning themes of creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. The cohesive course series aims to optimize student engagement in the classroom by providing didactic material online in order to increase in-class collaboration. This flipped classroom model reserves online material for individual review in experiences outside of class so students can focus on hands-on learning and increased classroom participation during class time. These classes are also placing an emphasis on problem- and project-based learning, and giving students more opportunities to apply their knowledge in real-world situations and with professional tools. In addition, the faculty are working together to explore new methods and strategies for teaching, and developing shared resources that can be used across a wide spectrum of Kinesiology courses.
