The team members I get to collaborate with at Academic Innovation all bring different areas of expertise to complex problems and are all incredibly passionate about our work. These skills and passions allows us to accomplish an incredible amount of quality projects with diverse stakeholders at lightning speed. As a Design Manager, it’s incredibly fulfilling to help faculty’s visions com to live as projects move from initial scoping conversations to complete online learning experiences. With new opportunities all the time, I enjoy that work is rarely slow and there are constant opportunities to explore new processes.
As a design manager at Academic Innovation, I pull together the skills, talent and resources needed to bring a faculty member’s vision for an online learning experience to life by collaborating with faculty, course teams, instructional designers, digital media specialists and external platform partners to design, develop and deliver innovative and engaging digital courses and learning initiatives.
My interest in promoting access to education through online learning experiences stems from my experiences as a US Peace Corps Volunteer, serving for two years in a rural computer center in the Dominican Republic. Working with community partners to develop an appropriate program, I trained lab managers to better serve the curricular needs of educators in the community’s primary school. However, I saw firsthand the need for increased access to quality educational resources within my community. I continued to pursue ways to increase access through graduate school, tailoring my work around the development and application of online environments and open educational resources (OERs). My graduate school work led me to Academic Innovation and the Design Manager role.
