3D Artist Fellowship

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for well-rounded, driven and flexible fellows to help us design and test Augmented and Virtual Reality applications that enhance the residential education experience and facilitate engaged and personalized learning at the University of Michigan. The XR fellows will be assisting with the first round of XR Innovation projects.

Duties:

The fellowship will involve playing an active role in the XR development team. XR Fellows will create 3D models, textures, animations, and visual effects to be used in XR projects. Fellows will collaborate with XR developers, designers, Faculty, and Graduate Students to bring to life projects for the XR Innovation Fund. 

General requirements for all our fellows include:

  • Working well independently in a multicultural and collaborative environment
  • Working well in an environment with rapidly changing requirements and priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Specific requirements for the XR 3D Artist fellowship are as follows:

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree or experience in Human Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Graphic Design and/or Research, computer science, or related fields
  • Strong portfolio with high quality ideation and design, 3D modeling and/or animation
  • Excellent creativity and artistic skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with
    • Image editing software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator or other relevant software)
    • 3D Modeling/Animation software (3ds Max, Maya, Blender, Cinema 4D or other relevant software)
  • Bonus if experience using Unreal Engine or Unity
  • Working in teams to support large projects
  • An eye for composition, realism, texture, color, and lighting.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.

Hours:

30+ (flexible hours)

Start Date:

May 2022

End Date:

August 2022 with the possibility of continuation into the summer.
