XR Student Fellow

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for driven, detailed-oriented, and collaborative fellows to help us design and test Augmented and Virtual Reality applications that enhance the residential education experience and facilitate engaged and personalized learning at the University of Michigan.

We are seeking fellows to specialize in 3D modeling, software development, media design, and/or user experience design. As an XR Student Fellow, you may: 

• Sketch prototypes and designs 
• Create and test software across the XR development stack 
• Produce 3D digital assets
• Create project plans
• Produce and edit 360 and traditional video assets featuring XR work
• Perform other tasks as assigned

As part of your application, please specify where your strengths and interests fall. 

Required Qualifications

• Coursework or experience in human computer interaction, user experience design and/or research, computer science, architecture, 3D art, filming, digital media production, or related fields
• Strong portfolio with high quality ideation and design 
• Willingness to take on unfamiliar, complex tasks that require specific processes
• Familiarity with drafting documentation and iterative development

Successful applicants may have experience in at least one of the following areas:

• Gametech and game engine development (Unreal, Uptale)
• WebAR tools (8th Wall, Aframe, Three.js)
• Wireframing and prototyping software (Sketch, Axure, Balsamiq, Adobe CS, Invision)
• User experience sketching and prototyping for AR/VR
• User testing and process development
• 3D Modeling and Asset Texturing Skill Sets (Blender, Maya, ZBrush, RhinoAdobe Substance, etc.)
• Organic modeling and sculpting
• 3D Animation (Blender, Maya, etc.)
• Digital media production and editing (Final Cut Pro X, Motion, Adobe After Effects, 360 video, etc.)

General requirements for all our fellows include:

• Working well independently in a multicultural and collaborative environment
• Working well in an environment with rapidly changing requirements and priorities
• Strong attention to detail

Hours

10-15 hours per week (flexible)

Start Date

Flexible in Winter 2023
