Bryon Maxey

Engagement Manager

Role: Bryon manages learner engagement for Academic Innovation’s portfolio of online courses by supporting those AI team members and volunteer mentors directly engaging online learners. With the design team, Bryon collaborates with faculty, and Academic Innovation's strategic partners, to develop and implement intentional and sustainable learner engagement plans for a diverse population of global learners.

Experience: Prior to joining AI, Bryon was the inaugural coordinator and research administrator for the Digital Islamic Studies Curriculum, a U-M led initiative sharing expertise in Islamic Studies amongst over a dozen Big Ten Academic Alliance universities through blended and synchronous learning environments. Bryon has also worked in multiethnic student affairs at U-M where he advised a widely respected peer mentorship program. Bryon taught as a secondary social studies educator in both Chicago and Detroit, and for a time, organized a statewide social equity campaign as a Detroit-based community organizer before returning to U-M.
