Why I Choose to Work at Academic Innovation:

“Having a sense of contribution while being supported by the team is the top reason I choose to work at AI. Two years ago when I was in graduate school at U-M, I was fortunate to have the opportunity working as a student fellow at AI. AI provided me with all the treasure a grad student would expect: authentic projects, hands-on experiences, professional working environments, and awesome colleagues. After graduation, I chose to continue working with this innovative, energetic, collaborative, and friendly group.”

Current Roles/Previous Experience:

Yuanru collaborates with cross-functional course development teams to design online learning experiences with close attention to compliance with accessibility and usability principles. She serves as a resource within the Center for Academic Innovation for finding pedagogical and technological solutions that make our projects and tools highly accessible to our constituents. Yuanru develops and facilitates workshops across U-M to educate faculty and staff on online education accessibility (standards, tools, and best practices). Yuanru also collaborates with Center colleagues on conducting learning design and learning analytics research projects to deliver data-informed decisions to improve online course design.

Prior to her current role, Yuanru worked as a Learning Design and Accessibility Fellow in Academic Innovation. Her responsibilities included collaborating with course design teams to develop online courses that meet pedagogical goals and accessibility requirements. She created guidelines, checklists, and improvement plans to allow design teams to address the accessibility challenges within the course design process. She supported the Center research projects, using learning analytics approaches, course visualization techniques, and assessment instruments.
