Pay Rate: Undergraduate $17/hr, Master’s $20/hr, Doctoral $23/hr

Job Duration: 10 – 15 hours/week for the Fall ‘26 semester, with the possibility of extending the fellowship through the duration of the Winter ‘27 semester.

Who We’re Looking For: 

A Learning Experience Design Student Fellow works closely with the LXD Team to support the design of self-paced courses, online certificate programs, online degree programs, and residential courses. 

Qualified candidates are those who enjoy actively embracing design challenges, demonstrate enthusiasm for trying new things, and are familiar with various modes of online education. Ideal candidates are those who have familiarity with graphic design, understand learning theory concepts, and have a basic understanding of how HTML works in Canvas.

What You’ll Do:

• Support the development of online courses through tasks such as video slide revisions, Canvas course building, editing video transcripts, and investigating learning tools 
• Apply style guides to existing Michigan Online courses
• Evaluate course designs against quality assurance guidelines to make targeted design improvements
• Regularly participate in Student Fellowship Program (SFP) events, professional development sessions, workshops, and community-building activities.

The Experience and Skills You’ll Gain: 

• Hands-on experience designing and improving online learning experiences alongside professional Learning Experience Designers.
• Technical skills such as building on Canvas, applying digital accessibility standards, utilizing style guides, and ensuring digital learning quality assurance standards are met.
• Professional communication, project management, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Student Qualifications:

• Current U-M student enrolled in a degree or online degree program at the Ann Arbor campus
• Foundational knowledge of working in Canvas
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing requirements and priorities
• Ability to be a dependable colleague in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Strong independent problem-solving ability
