Senior Director, Marketing and Market Strategy

Why I Choose to Work at Academic Innovation

Designing the future of learning is a remarkably compelling mission. When it is pursued within one of the greatest educational institutions in the world, it leads to amazing innovation and advances. Contributing to that mission, and progress, is a great privilege and why I am excited to work for the University of Michigan’s Center for Academic Innovation.

Current Roles/Previous Experience

James Cleaver is the Center for Academic Innovation’s Senior Director of Marketing and Market Strategy. In this role, James is responsible for CAI’s market growth strategy by leading all aspects of marketing, communications, and edtech market strategy as well as coordinating fundraising activities to increase CAI’s visibility among external funding entities.

Prior to joining CAI, James was the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business’ Director of Brand Management. In that role James was involved in developing the marketing strategy for the launch of residential and online degree programs, as well as non-degree programs. In addition, James led annual planning for the school’s portfolio of existing academic degree programs, and oversaw the school’s marketing intelligence team.

Before joining the University of Michigan, James worked at advertising and branding agencies in New York and London.
