Yuanru Tan

Learning Experience Designer & Accessibility Coordinator

Role: Yuanru collaborates with cross-functional course development teams to ensure that online course design elements, activities, and resources comply with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG). She serves as a resource within the Office of Academic Innovation (AI) for finding pedagogical and technological solutions that make our projects and tools highly accessible to our constituents. Yuanru develops and facilitates workshops across U-M to educate faculty and staff about best practices around creating accessible instructional materials.

Experience: Prior to her current role, Yuanru worked as a Learning Design and Accessibility Fellow in AI. Her responsibilities included collaborating with course design teams to develop online courses that meet pedagogical goals and accessibility requirements (e.g., the Americans with Disabilities Act). She created guidelines, checklists, and improvement plans to allow design teams to address the accessibility challenges within the course design process. She supported AI research projects, using learning analytics approaches, course visualization techniques, and assessment instruments.
