Bridge the Gap Between Digital Design and Phyiscal Construction in Architecture Education with XR

Project description

Understanding fabrication and construction is essential for architects. By utilizing the HoloLens 2 headset, smartphones, and the 3D modeling software program Rhinoceros 3D [5], this proposal intends to accelerate the learning of fabrication processes and extend the students’ understanding of construction. Moreover, we have seen growth in the implementation of MR technologies in other disciplines, including manufacturing. We foresee that exposing our students to MR technologies during their education will prepare them to be competitive candidates to take architecture, construction, or manufacturing jobs and be active agents in shaping the future of these disciplines.

Learning Goals

  1. Students should be able to apply the learned knowledge and skill of fabrication and construction procedures to other projects.
  2. Students should be able to define and visualize the sequence of assemble procedures.
