XR Impact & Research Fellow

Pay Rate: Undergraduate $17/hr, Master’s $20/hr, Doctoral $23/hr

Who We’re Looking For:

The XR team is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated student fellow to help document, analyze, and communicate the impact of our Extended Reality (XR) initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with strong research, organizational, and communication skills who is interested in evaluating the effectiveness of XR projects on education and preparing materials that highlight their impact.

The fellow will collect and analyze data on engagement, develop case studies, and conduct research to support decision-making. Additionally, they will assist in gathering, organizing, and preparing materials for internal teams to use in externally showcasing the work of the XR team.

This fellowship is a great opportunity for students interested in XR who have strong research, writing, and analytical skills. It provides hands-on experience in documenting impact, crafting narratives, and supporting outreach efforts. Additional tasks and opportunities for growth will depend on your areas of strength and interests.

What You’ll Do:

As the XR Impact & Research Fellow, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Conduct Research & Impact Analysis
    • Gather information from faculty partners, contributors, and learners through surveys and interviews. 
    • Collect and analyze data on XR engagement (e.g., number of students impacted by school, class, semester). 
    • Interpret qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of XR initiatives on teaching and learning. 
    • Prepare reports and summaries that support decision-making within the XR portfolio.
  • Create Impact Stories & Case Studies
    • Develop case studies, short reports, and blurbs to communicate the value of XR projects. 
    • Craft compelling narratives that showcase how XR technology is enhancing teaching and learning. 
    • Work closely with the XR team to ensure findings align with strategic goals.
  • Prepare Content for Outreach & Visibility
    • Collect, organize, and curate materials (e.g., images, videos, testimonials, impact statistics) that can be shared with marketing or other teams for outreach efforts. 
    • Support efforts to maintain and improve the XR team’s online presence by preparing content updates or recommendations for internal and external platforms. 
    • Assist in developing presentations, reports, and stakeholder decks that highlight the impact of XR work.

Required Student Qualifications:

  • Interest in extended reality (XR), including virtual, augmented, and mixed reality.
  • Experience in social science research, communications, public engagement, educational technology, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear narratives.
  • Experience with survey creation, interviews, and data collection. 
  • Ability to analyze and interpret qualitative and quantitative data. 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Working well independently in a multicultural and collaborative environment.
  • Working well in an environment with rapidly changing requirements and priorities.

Desired Student Qualifications (Not Required to Apply):

  • Experience with extended reality (XR) and/or virtual reality (VR) headsets.
  • Experience with Virtual Production (VP) and/or LED video walls. 
  • Experience working with data organization and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Background in journalism, research analysis, or digital storytelling.
  • Familiarity with impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, or public-facing content development.
  • Experience drafting reports, case studies, or blog posts.
  • Knowledge of content organization and management systems (e.g., Google Drive, Asana).
